Clean Coleman 1-Mantle Lantern Model 243A dated 12/40 Dec 1940 - Restored

Description

Offered for sale is a clean Coleman Model 243A
single mantle lantern.  The 243A was the economy lantern that was being sold at the same time as the nickel plated 242B.  The 243A had a steel frame and painted brass fount and was not flashy like the 242B.  The 243A was always used hard by owners who needed it everyday for light.  This lantern shows the years of use.  It has a date stamp of
0 12
for
December
, 1940, just as the US was emerging from a long economic depression.
This lantern
is in good condition and has been disassembled, cleaned and tested after reassembly.
The fuel cap gasket was replaced, the check valve was removed and cleaned, and the pump leather was oiled.
The brass parts have been cleaned and hand
polished.
The lantern pumps up, holds
pressure for days, and passes air through the generator when the valve is
opened.
The steel burner frame has cleaned up nicely but does show pitting on the frame and air tubes.
It has a used generator that has been cleaned and passes air as it should.  The brass fount has lost much of its original blue paint.
There are
a couple small dings
, so please view all the photos
carefully.
The fount is clean inside.
The black porcelain vent is in
fair
condition
with
minor chipping on top and around the decorative side holes.  The top hole is worn, but still sits on top of the burner frame button.
The globe
is a later white letter Made in USA replacement and
there are no chips, cracks, or burn marks in the glass.
This lantern
is ready for you to admire or light, but definitely to enjoy.
